The capital an insurer must hold to guarantee payment of future benefits.

What it changes for you

The FOPH sets a legal minimum and supervises every insurer. Very high reserves sometimes explain premiums rising while costs stagnate; conversely, an insurer with too few reserves must rebuild them, and that will show in next year’s premium. It is an indicator of direction, not of service quality.
