A caution on this category: the FOPH files place telemedicine models and combined models (phone then designated doctor, or pharmacy as first contact) under one and the same code. We do not separate them, because the source does not. Your insurer’s policy terms state exactly what you are committing to.

Before consulting, you call the insurer’s medical service, which advises and directs you. Emergencies are the exception. Some contracts in this category combine the phone with a designated doctor or a pharmacy first stop — the policy terms say which.

When it holds up

  • You live rurally or move often: no centre to reach, so no constraint of place.
  • You are happy to call before travelling, and like that advice sometimes saves the trip.
  • You want a discount close to the HMO without the address requirement.

What you accept in return

  • Forgetting the call before a consultation can lead some insurers to refuse cover.
  • The category mixes several formulas: two contracts at the same price may not require the same thing.
