Deductible
In one sentence
The amount of medical costs you pay in full each year before your insurer starts reimbursing anything.
What it changes for you
For an adult the law offers six tiers, from CHF 300 to CHF 2,500; for a child, from CHF 0 to CHF 600. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium — but the saving is only real if your costs stay low. The correct calculation does not compare premiums with each other: it compares total cost, premium plus deductible plus co-payment, at a given level of medical spending.
