What "Callmed" actually means

Basic insurance is not sold under the name "basic insurance". It is sold under a product name, and the FOPH lists 122 of them across 33 insurers. Those names are on your policy; their price and their real reach are published nowhere.

Behind the brand name sits a care pathway

Behind every trade name is an obligation: call a number before any consultation, always go first to a named family doctor, or use a designated group practice. That obligation is what you buy, and it is what lowers the premium — not thinner cover, since the basic-insurance catalogue is set by law and identical everywhere.

The best of the 122 saves CHF 1'442.70 a year against the same insurer's basic cover: VIVA – plan de santé at sana24. Comparing against the market's cheapest would have meant nothing — it would mix "change insurer" with "change model", two different decisions.

The trap of the limited-coverage models

4 of these products are not offered across their whole premium region, but in a precise list of municipalities written into the official file. The narrowest, VIVA – plan de santé at Visana, covers only 2 municipalities.

Moving a few kilometres is then enough to fall out of it — and nothing warns you when you sign the lease. That list has always been in the FOPH data; we publish it municipality by municipality on every model sheet.
