Does my employer insure me against accidents?

The answer

From eight hours a week with the same employer, yes — including non-occupational accidents. You can then suspend the accident cover on your health insurance and save around CHF 358.50 a year.

Why

Below eight hours, the LAA covers occupational accidents only: accident cover on your health insurance remains essential. A self-employed person is not covered by compulsory LAA at all.

The reverse matters just as much: losing your job, dropping below eight hours or going self-employed means reactivating accident cover immediately. LAA cover ends thirty days after the employment relationship does.
