What happens to my insurance if I lose my job?

The answer

Basic cover continues unchanged — nobody can exclude you. But the employer’s accident cover ends thirty days after the employment relationship does: you then have to reactivate it with your health insurer, which costs around CHF 358.50 a year.

Why

Two ways to bridge the thirty-day gap: an extension agreement with the employer’s LAA insurer, or immediate reactivation of accident cover with your health insurer. Doing nothing is the only wrong choice.

If your income falls, apply again for a premium subsidy at the cantonal office: entitlement is assessed on the current year’s situation, not the previous one.
