How do I cancel my Swiss health insurance?
The answer
By registered letter, arriving at your insurer by 30 November at the latest, stating your insured number and termination as of 31 December.
Why
Three mistakes cost a full year: sending by B-mail, forgetting the insured number, and cancelling before the new insurer has confirmed in writing. Registered mail is the only proof of delivery that will count in a dispute.
Do not cancel supplementary policies alongside basic cover without reading their terms: they follow different deadlines, and a lost supplementary policy is not always recovered — the new insurer may refuse you.
