Should I report a small claim to my car insurer?

The answer

Not always. One claim pushes your bonus level up several steps at once, and the effect is paid for over years: compare the cost of the repair with the cumulative premium increase before reporting.

Why

The bonus level belongs to you and transfers to a new insurer. Ask for the certificate BEFORE cancelling: without it, the new insurer starts you at an unfavourable level.

In liability, by contrast, always report: it is not you who claims but the injured party, and it is for the insurer to decide whether the claim is well founded.

Your own figure

The comparator works out your actual premium from your age, deductible and municipality, across all 34 insurers at once.
